False Bay Writer’s Cabin

Esta cabaña – diseñada por Olson Kundig Architects – tiene 150 m2 cuadrados y sirve como refugio de escritores o casa para invitados. Los propietarios querían mantener un contacto permanente con el entorno, el clima, la fauna y las vistas y además necesitaban un sistema de cierre seguro para cuando la casa no estuviese en uso.

La cabaña, ubicada en la Isla de San Juan, en Washington, Estados Unidos, fue diseñada como una casa de cristal rodeada por tres terrazas de madera, que pueden ser manejadas por un sistema hidráulico de cables, cuerdas, poleas pivotantes y bloques de plomo, sirviendo como persianas y sistema de cierre permanente.

Cuando están abiertas, las estructuras móviles son espacios al aire libre; cuando están cerrados permiten asegurar la cabina. La chimenea puede girar en 180 grados para ser disfrutada en el interior o en el exterior y la cubierta invertida, fuerza al agua a drenar en la parte trasera de la casa.

La cabaña tiene una habitación individual con una pequeña cocina y un baño. Los acabados son simples, interrumpidos sólo por una incrustación de acero negro que divide el piso desde la chimenea hasta la ventana en la parte trasera.

Torres de Alta Tensión del Siglo 21

En Mayo, el gobierno Inglés y el Instituto Real de Arquitectos Británicos lanzaron una competencia para diseñar la torre de alta tensión del siglo 21, para suplir las nuevas demandas de infraestructura y expansión del sistema eléctrico de la ciudad, la cual se presentó como una nueva oportunidad para arquitectos y diseñadores para influenciar en el paisaje por siglos.

La idea es hacer que el impacto visual de estos postes en el paisaje, y en la vista del público, sea menor pero de mayor calidad. Se debe explorar la relación entre infraestructura de energía y elmedioambiente en el que se emplaza.

A continuación la lista de los 6 diseños finalistas incluyendo el proyecto ganador por Bystrup, diseños que estuvieron expuestos en el V&A Museum y en el Festival de Diseño de Londres.

1. GANADOR

Se ha diseñado como una torre esbelta y compacta. Los conductores están dispuestos en una configuración triangular que reduce la extensión de los circuitos y campos magnéticos. Para adaptarse al carácter cambiante y colorido del paisaje, la torre se encuentra disponible con pinturas, galvanizado, acero Corten o acero inoxidable.

Con una dinamica silueta la torre exagera su intento en llegar al cielo. Su esbeltez se asemeja a una pincelada en un cuadro, el paisaje. Aparece en su conjunto como un patrón, negro por un lado y plateado hacia el otro, reflejando y asemejandose al contexto .

3. Flower Tower – Gustafson Porter

Flower Tower – Gustafson Porter

La torre expresa la transmision de energia mediante formas asociadas a la naturaleza. En elevación, la torre se lee como un ramo de hojas o flores. La agrupación de varios “tallos” crea laestabilidad estructural en la base. Estos tallos son amarrados entre si por las placas de conexión y puentes horizontales que permiten el acceso para la mantención de los cables.

4. AL_A Pylon – AL_A & Arup

AL_A Pylon – AL_A& Arup

Esta propuesta crea un poético dialogo entre estructura y paisaje. Su forma responde a los cambios de la topografía cruzando el horizonte con un gracia y ligereza. Estas torres, a pesar de su apariencia, han sido diseñadas para la resistencia, adaptándose a las diferencias de los lugares donde se emplazará, mediante una expansión y retracción de su forma arqueada.

5. Knight Architects

La composición en forma de Y observa las reglas geométricas que rigen la separación segura de los elementos conductivos. Se realiza un cambio radical en el diseño mediante la aplicación demateriales de aislamiento dentro de la estructura primaria. El uso de una doble cubierta de caucho de silicona en los brazos permite reducciones significativas en la altura de la torre y en el ‘desorden’ visual.

6. Newtown Studio

La idea principal de este diseño es e concepto de “ver a través de mi, no a mi”, el respeto por el paisaje y el cielo. Ligereza, eficiencia e ingenio. Se trata de hacer cada vez mas transparente y abierta la estructura, la forma más sencilla y modesta.

Modern Home Extension Displaying

Architecture company dmvA designed a modern and original home extension entitled “vB4” and located within the countryside of Brecht, Germany. According to the project developers, “the extension from the existing form resulted in a floating volume built with trapezoidal wooden structures. The new timber parts followed the same frames and studs as the original. These borders next to each other connect the old and new space creating a new library, washroom and entrance area. The exterior is recladded in black stained siding positioned vertically to create a similar repetitive motion as the surrounding forest. The back and front of the home is fully glazed with a movable partition wall which allows for uninterrupted views of the adjacent garden and pond.” The new addition was planned on a challenging surface of only 26 square meters, while considering the strict building regulations of the municipality. Have a look at the photos below and tell us if you believe the lack of space had any negative effect on the “look” of the new building.

Blowing in the Wind Pavilion

Italian designer Riccardo Giovanetti developed a pavilion in an exhibition space for the Russian door company Sofia. Its design is original and daring, which is why we decided to share it further. According to the architects, “the project arises from the desire to create a direct relationship between the architectural form of the exhibition space with the form of the company’s logo.

Architecturally, the pavilion was conceived with a single element, repeated to create a hanging structure and a circular exhibition space, which allows light and air to pass through. The construction of the pavilion has been studied in order to give the elements the appearance of being blown in the wind and thanks to gravity each element returns to it’s original position.The elements are made from high-density expanded polystyrene, a lightweight, compact and completely recyclable material. The final effect of the structure is impressive: a large white space of curvilinear shapes that float in the air embracing their inner environment“. Designed by Céline Merhand and Anaïs Morel of Les M Design Studio, this fascinating storage mirror named Precious makes you wonder how come you don’t already have one. As described by the design duo, “the mirror unfolds to reveal a colorful system for the organization of jewelry and fashion accessories. “Precious” offers a pull-out bar with hooks to neatly hang necklaces and earrings. A set of removable boxes can accommodate bracelets, rings and the smallest items. The boxes in different shapes and colors, can be playfully assembled in multiple variations, creating an ever-changing setting.” Its simplicity cleverly hides the storage compartments while displaying a minimalist shape and curvacious design lines. Eraser pencil

Why buy a pencil and an eraser, or even a pencil with an eraser, when you could have the Eraser Pencil? The design, from Deuk Young Lee of Korea, ditches the wood entirely and replaces it with a long length of stiff rubber. Thus, as long as the pencil is long enough to write with, it still has an eraser.

Why Lee made it a cross shape is a little less obvious. It certainly limits the amount of available eraser, and also looks rather uncomfortable to hold, despite Lee’s assertion that it is in fact more comfortable. And what happens when the rubbery exterior bends? Will the lead inside shatter and snap into several shards? Almost certainly.

replaces the wooden body of conventional pencils with a rubber eraser. produced inexpensively
via injection molding, the device is still sharpenable, but eliminates the extra material of wood
that normally adds no additional functionality to a pencil. lee states that the pencil is furthermore
more comfortable than traditional models: stable enough to be gripped easily but causing less fatigue
over extended periods of writing.
